Econotron Software, Inc. was founded in 1978 as a developer of
econometric and simulation software. Over the intervening period, we have
created custom software and user interfaces for applications in education, the arts, econometrics, and
finance. The company's products are used by professionals in academia,
government, research institutes and business in over 40 countries.
Interactive GraphiX
Interactive GraphiX is a graphics package
specifically designed to work with Gauss. IGX provide a high degree of
control over a graphic environment while the graph is displayed, either
interactively through menus using the mouse and keyboard, or through the use
of GAUSS commands. A very rich set of graphic features are provided.
Output can be saved in a number of popular formats, and image processing tools
are provided.
LikPak
LikPak provides a set of over 50 likelihood procedures that are commonly used in econometrics, and show, by example, how a model can be
parameterized using these likelihoods. Additional utilities are provided for data generation, filtering, Gibbs sampling, and constraining parameters. Thus LikPak is the perfect
companion to an optimization package, such as MaxLik or CML. LikPak is
provided as source, and will run on any GAUSS platform.
Mercury
The Mercury package consists of a set of
functions that provide the functionality of Gauss from within an external
application. These functions enable sending data or strings to Gauss
from an external application, running Gauss code, and returning data or
strings from Gauss back to the external application. Sample examples
include C++, Visual Basic, and Excel. Thus Mercury is invaluable
in the creation of a user designed front end for Gauss, or for adding
full Gauss functionality to an existing application, such as Excel.
Clipboard support, threading support and DLL creation are also included. Mercury
requires either Gauss for Windows 3.5 or higher, or the Gauss Engine 4.0 for
Windows or higher.
GUI
Tools
The underlying idea behind GUI Tools is to provide an interactive graphic user interface for
Gauss for Windows. GUI Tools allows the programmer to have the end user respond to a graphic based dialog,
along with standard Windows controls, using both keyboard and mouse. GUI Tools is called from
Gauss with a minimum of programming - typically one specifies a title, prompt, and the name of the control or GUI, followed by a one line call.
Custom GUIs can be created using standard drag and drop techniques, with no
programming. GUI Tools requires Gauss for Windows 4.0 or higher. A free
version, GUI Reader, is available, which is identical to GUI Tools, but cannot
save GUI definition files.
Symbolic
Tools
The Symbolic Tools package augments the numeric and graphical
capabilities of Gauss with
additional types of mathematical functionality based on symbolic computations.
These include symbolic algebra, exact linear algebra,
language extension and user defined precision. The computational work is carried
out by the Maple kernel. One of the main uses of
Symbolic Tools is to enable Gauss to undertake
automatic differentiation, by creating procs that return analytical
gradients and Hessians, which can then be used by optimization packages such as
MAXLIK or CML. Over 180 Gauss examples are included, as well as 10 AD examples, including ARCH and GARCH.
Symbolic Tools requires Gauss for Windows or the Gauss Engine for
Windows 4.0 or higher, and Maple 9 or higher.
Gauss
on the Web
You've built your Gauss application, and you would like to deploy it on the net.
Gauss on the Web
provides a template to let you do just that. Typical applications include data
exploration (for example in a financial context), simulation (statistical,
engineering, etc.) and pedagogical. And you don't even need your own server -
indeed, the entire Econotron Gauss on the Web demonstration project is
hosted on a local Internet Provider.
CodeLock
CodeLock is an inexpensive software license control system
that allows a developer to distribute evaluation copies as well as preventing
unauthorized copying. CodeLock lets you have one set of code, which expires
when you specify - after a certain number of days, sessions or expiry date.
When the end user wants the registered version, you unlock the application
by emailing a user specific serial number. Typically, one needs to add two
lines of code to one's application. And the overhead is minimal - the
CodeLock DLL is 64KB.
